Choosing Decorative Wall Mirrors

When trying to decide whether to use artwork or a decorative wall mirror in your foyer, I think it depends on what you want to accomplish. Are you trying to add depth, light or brightness to the area? A mirror can add these things to a space where art may not. A wall mirror can make a smaller foyer seem larger and reflect light for brightness, if placed properly. Add a slightly smaller mirror to a larger foyer as an accent to a piece of artwork. This will allow for last minute touches, or adjustment before walking out the door, and would make the perfect addition to your foyer.

Decorative mirrors add color and personality to your home and can enlarge and expand a foyer. The frame of a mirror can add both the color you are looking for, and show your personality, or the personality of your home. For elegance as well as hominess, use an oval mirror. An oval mirror hung long-ways can give a completely different look to a room without changing another thing.

Let your personality shine through in the foyer by adding personal touches such as a piece of artwork, flowers or a small accent table to “entice” people to want to see more. Think of it as the first impression. Similar to meeting a person for the first time, the foyer is an “introduction” to your home.

It’s always exciting to hear “I LOVE what you’ve done” when all you did was add, or change the position of a mirror or piece of artwork.

Have you ever sat in your foyer and closed your eyes to try to see it through someone else’s eyes? Are the colors “flattering” to each other? Does the table flatter the artwork and/or mirror? Is the paint color on the wall complimentary to everything else in the room? Sometimes emptying the room and “re-introducing” each piece and re-placing it in a different spot, will make you feel like you’ve “redone” the entire space.

In conclusion, I feel a decorative wall mirror has more advantages and versatility than artwork. Whether it’s the shape, or frame color or style of the mirror, I think you are less “confined” with a mirror than with artwork. As always it is a personal choice, so reflecting your personality and taste is the most important consideration.

READ PLEASE! I'd like a few more opinions before i start fixing it. Harsh criticism please:)?

I sprint down the narrow hallway, into the tiny bathroom and slam the door shut behind me. Tears streming down my red hot cheeks, i take the knife out of its hiding spot on top of the cabinet and touch the cool blade to my wrist. Suddenly my mind becomes very blank and clear.
I force my eyes to look away from the blade against my skin. I take in my surroundings. Small, dank bathroom. Forset green paint chipping off the walls surrounding me…suffocating me. Iook up…see my reflection. The person in the mirror does not look like me. Face…hot, nose…runny, hair…wild, eyes…crazed. Wanting so despretaly to do the deed, but knowing I can’t. My eyes, filling with tears at the sight of the person in the mirror, dart back down to my wrists, my arms…
All i see are faded scars. As i stare at the blade against skin, I force myself to stop. It’s summer, which means short sleeves and tanks. Once would be fine, but I have already done it once. Two or three times could raise suspicion. Reluctantly i pick up the little decorative box off the top of the cabinet, and return the knife safely to its hiding spot…to save for a rainy day. I splash some cold water on my face and cheeks to cool them down. Brush out my wild hair, and take some deep breaths…hoping for my eyes to become less frantic. I look in the mirror again. I look just as I had a few minutes ago. I look the way everyone expects me to look. Like a happy, healthy teenage girl…although on the inside…i feel the complete opposite. I open the door with a stoic expression and walk across the hall to my room…making sure to close the door behind me. My new weapon of choice…a rubberband.
I snap it hard against my pale white wrist to get the full effect of the pain. All the while watching the door…hoping nobody will stumble in on me. When I feel I’ve done enough to rid myself of all the hurt, i put the rubber band back in my drawer. I check my wrists for marks. There is a slight red ring…a few bracelets could hide that nicely. I search through my cluttered white dresser for some bigger bracelets. I slide some into just the right spot, walk over to the door, and open it up to the real world, while leaving my own. The real world which expects me to be a perfect, happy tenager girl, but my life is far from perfect. Surely I will return to my world soon enough, but for now, I must retreat into the world I hate. The world which forces me to create my own so I have somewhere to get away. My world? My world is all about depression and misery. My world which has one giant secret, which nobody knows, or ever will know…at least not now. So I walk out into the world, confident my secret will be kept. I mean, everyone was too oblivious all the other times to notice my dark secret. Why should they start noticing now? Right?

I need help choosing paint for my bedroom asap?

I am going to paint my bedroom soon. I’m 13 and I have a small bedroom. I’m thinking of doing a pale but bright green with dark blue quotes on the walls. But I can’t find a nice green! I want it to be warm, not icy. I need it to be behrs paint since that’s what they have at home depots. If you could name a specific color that would help a lot. Thanks for the help! (I’m going to have dark brown furniture and I have whitish carpet) Any ideas on how to make my bedroom look great would be appreciated too! (I am not going to have any pink in my bedroom except a small decorative mirror).
All right you can say any brand of paint. One more thing; I’d like a green not too yellowish or grayish or bluish. Just green (sorry I’m being picky).
Never mind. No sherwin williams paint. Anything they sell at Walmart, Lowes, or Home Depot. Thanks so much for your answers!

Architecture during the Colonial America

During the time that North America was being colonized, early European settlers brought various traditions of architecture from their homelands. They incorporated the styles of building in Europe to the homes in colonial America. The early architecture varied throughout many regions of the country. The houses built by British settlers in the northeastern coast vastly differentiated from the houses that the French built in the Mississippi valley.
The location of the houses had evolved from the type of climate and resources that were available. The settlers in the north regions had larger fireplaces with the chimney located in the center to spread heat evenly throughout the house due to the cold winters, whereas the southern houses had the fireplace at the end due to the humid climate. A man who came from a windy and cold part of a European region built his house low to the ground, triple the width, and without a second story. Those who came from salubrious climate produced a liking with a loft or a second story. This is one of the main reasons why the types of houses varied across the regions.
The most distinctive type of houses was of the Georgian styles which were inspired by the renaissance rediscovery of Greece and Rome. This particular style reflected wealth and cultivated beauty of the eighteenth century. The southern regions of colonial America are where most of these designs of houses were found. The basic features that define a Georgian style house are its square symmetrical shape made from brick and stone, central arched door, and several double-hung windows aligned on its first and second floor. Two chimneys would be located exactly across from each other. The houses were mostly built of bricks with some trimmings of wood. The overall house was painted white or sometimes in crème color. The main door usually composed of a decorative crown that gave it an elegant look. All of these proportioned features of the home were topped off with a gabled or flat roofs made from bricks.
Upon entering the main doorway, you would find a hallway that leads to the stairway to the second floor. The second floor consists of all of the bedrooms which were paneled floor to ceiling with painted pine. The first floor usually has a spacious living room, formal dining room, and some have a family room. A fireplace would be seen at the end of the house to deplete the heat generated in the summer by the constant need for cooking fires. The floors were made of wooden planks and were waxed, which gave it an overall glossy appearance. The walls were decorated with large mirrors that reflected light that came in through the large windows. Family portraits would be hung in each corner. The colors of the furniture were warm and inviting throughout the entire house. Most of the furniture’s were made of damask, silk, velvet, and chintz. Most of the furniture was imported in the houses of the wealthy. Almost all of the imported furniture was made from walnut and mahogany. A wing chair and a tilt-top table were spotted near the corners or centers of living rooms. The backside of the house had a classic southern porch. The patio was built with wood, wicker, and maple.
These were the Georgian style houses that the wealthier colonies lived in. Whereas the poorer colonist’s houses were usually unpainted, made from wood, single story, and was furnished with simpler furniture. The average colonists made their furniture with wood from nearby forests. The most common furniture in an average colonist Georgian homes consisted of a wooden table or two, shelves, long benches, and a few stools. Eating utensils were scarce in the kitchen. Farmers would provide the family with knifes, forks, and spoons that were made from bone, wood, or iron. The richer colonists provided their families with many different kinds of foods such as, Beef, pork, and other meats were produced on the place. The lower class had most of the same diet, but in a smaller quantity.
Despite all the time working hard labor, the early colonists found plenty of time for games, socializing, tastes, and religious activities. Most of the boys participated in games that tested their skills like racing, swimming, wrestling, jumping, and shooting contests. Most families homes had billiard tables and shuffleboards. Younger children enjoyed playing with marbles, tops, and “pinching pennies”. The more wealthy families had occasional house parties, suppers, and other festivities, but dancing was the favorite of all. They would dance for hours during get-togethers. Religious services were held in private homes in early settlements until church buildings started being constructed. Like many homes of colonial America, the size, structure, style, and interior furnishing of the church buildings varied throughout many regions of the country.

What paint color should I use in my bathroom?

It’s a fairly large bathroom… there is white (slightly grayish) marble about 4 feet up on the walls with Dark emerald green marble on the floor and a 2 inch border above the white. We got brushed nickle faucets with White tub and sinks, etc. And lastly, the vanity is a double sink with a black granite counter and decorative wooden bottom… The wood bottom is similar to this one in color and design…

Is this a good start to my story?

I didn’t mean to do it but in his eyes that doesn’t matter.

A beautiful, mature girl reflected in a large, ornate mirror. Many emotions played against her striking body. Hopeless was written in her electric blue eyes and an attitude that screamed “I don’t care.” showed in her posture. Worriedly she twisted her dark, brown, curly hair. A slight smile spread across her pale face, and even though it didn’t show her heart was hanging by a thread. In her mind a battle was raging inside.
“Lee?”
A new girl showed up in the mirror. This time confusion was played against her usual sunny face. The girl’s eyes were emerald green. Her long, wavy, red hair contrasted beautifully against her eyes. A few freckles were dotted against her face. She was noticeably taller by 2 inches.
“Yes, Lilly?” said Lee
“What’s wrong?” Lilly replied, wrapping her arms around Lee
“Nothing”
“Lee you promised me at…………….”
“Yes but that was when………………..people were around.”
“Why didn’t you just tell me there?! It was only Megan, Alice and……………………. Oh.”
“Luke.” Lee said finishing Lilly’s sentence “Lilly, no it’s not …………….that.” she said walking away
“Then what is it?” Lilly said frustration blatten in her voice
“Lilly……..no…I-I just …………”
“What Natilee Marie Lestrange!”
“I-I-I” Tears came streaming down Natilee’s face
“Oh Natilee, I didn’t mean to seem harsh.” Lilly said sitting down on a magnificent four poster bed “It’s just you’ve been really down ever since …….” Natilee glared at her “the incident.”
Natilee lay down on the bed next to where Lilly sat. She starred up at the ceiling. Eyes wet with moisture she muttered “But Lils you’ve got to understand the situation. It’s getting…………so hard to…”
“I know I know but can’t you just I don’t know tell him no.”Lilly breathed back
“Lilly it’s not like that….It’s complicated.”
“Then tell me.”Lilly moved closer to Lee” No one is going to hear you…You trust me. Right?
Natilee didn’t answer instead she just looked around her bedroom.”Was she right? Can no one hear me?”She glanced up the corners of her walls expecting to find a tiny wire or a small disc like circle. There was nothing. She stared through her large, fancy bay window that looked out into the castle grounds. Not a soul was out. Not evens the deer that sometimes pranced through the forests or even the birds that nested high up into the maple trees. It seemed that even the fish that usually leaped out of the small lake by the evergreen forest were dead in their afternoon activities. Unsatisfied she ran to her Enormous, oak wardrobe and searched through all her extravagant clothing. Nothing. Sprinting to her Mirror dresser she frantically gazed through all of her expensive jewelry and decorative scarves and through whatever that was on top. Not a single cord or ear bud.
As Natilee worriedly looked over all her things, Lilly tried to calm her down. She even tried to stop her by forcing her to sit down but Lee wasn’t content until all her belongings were inspected. “Tell no one of our last encounter or anything all the lines of this. Remember our eyes and ears are everywhere.” were the thoughts that raced through her mind.
Suddenly Natilee stopped and collapsed on the checkered tile.
I am going to continue my story no matter what you guys say but i wanted an opion of it.
